Turkmenistan implements foreign economic relations with all European countries of Europe. The total trade amounted to $1.5 billion, Turkmen President Gurbanguly Berdimuhammedov said at a meeting with the head of the European Commission Jose Manuel Barroso.

"These figures do not reflect our countries' potential and opportunities," he said.

He said that it is necessary to more fully use the potential of the joint committee "Turkmenistan - the European Union". A regular meeting will be held in Ashgabat this year.

The high-tech industry, transport, communications, banking and financial sectors are among the prospective spheres of cooperation.

"This approach will increase the economic and investment activity, aimed at implementing the projects to create new trans-continental trade and transport corridors," the Turkmen president said.

He also proposed to study the possibility of developing a program of trade and economic cooperation between Turkmenistan and the European Union in the medium or long term prospect.
