Uzbekistan set to change marking of textile products

Baku, Azerbaijan, Jan.3

By Nigar Guliyeva – Trend:

A new marking for domestic textile products 'Uztextile' may be introduced in Uzbekistan in the near future, Uzbek media reported.

Chairman of the Board of the Association "Uztekstilprom" Ilkhom Khaidarov said that the new marking may replace the current 'Made in Uzbekistan' marking.

Presently, profile agencies are developing specific criteria for new marking. Among its main tasks is the formation of recognizability of Uzbek textile products and its positive image in the world. Obtaining the Uztextile label will mean that the products meet all the most stringent requirements in the markets of the European Union, the US, Japan and South Korea.

"In Uztextile, we intend to include sanitary and environmental standards, and in the long term - the social responsibility of the manufacturer. The textile company, realizing that the presence of marking opens up large export prospects for it, will strive to improve the quality and production conditions itself. This will be a certificate uniting all the main international requirements for textile products, "said Zhasur Rustambekov, the department head at the Association "Uztekstilprom".

Light industry enterprises of Uzbekistan, according to preliminary data, exported products for $1.1 billion in 2017. The products of Uzbek enterprises were supplied to more than 50 countries, and the share of goods with high added value exceeded 40 percent. If in early 2017 there were 293 exporting enterprises, then by the end of the year their number had reached 350.

To date, about 7,000 enterprises of the light industry are operating, cotton-fiber production capacity of 1.4 million tons has been created, of which about 60 percent is used to meet the needs of domestic textile enterprises.

Over the past ten years, the industry has maintained a steady growth rate, the production of textiles increased 4.3 times, the volume of its exports - almost 4 times.

In accordance with the Program for the Further Development of the Textile and Apparel and Knitting Industries for 2017-2021, it is envisaged to implement 140 projects with a total value of more than $2.2 billion in Uzbekistan.
