The President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov received Governor of Astrakhan region of the Russian Federation Alexander Zhilkin, local TV channel "Altyn Asyr" reported May 3.
The Russian delegation took part in the celebrations to mark the opening of the international seaport in the Pre-Caspian city of Turkmenbashi May 2. Berdymukhamedov stressed the friendly, good-neighbourly nature of cooperation with the Astrakhan region, the relevance of joint projects in various fields, including projects in the field of shipping.
The head of state emphasized that the development of direct and effective contacts with the regions and leading industrial centers of Russia is one of the key directions of the interstate Turkmen-Russian dialogue.
The sides focused on such priority areas as trade and economic, transport and communication spheres. At the same time, the prospects for expanding the partnership between the business circles of the two countries were noted, taking into account the full range of logistics services and other opportunities of the new seaport in Turkmenbashi.
Earlier, it was reported that new prospects are opened by Turkmenistan's projects to create transnational transport and transit corridors in the direction of Iran, Afghanistan and India.
During the bilateral meetings, the idea of opening a wholesale and logistics center in the Astrakhan region to introduce Turkmen goods into the Russian market was also expressed.
In February 2018, it was reported that the port of Turkmenbashi is already loading polypropylene into the holds of the Russian dry cargo ship "Musa Jalil" for delivery to the port of Olya in the Astrakhan region.
