In February 2020, the hotel price index in Georgia decreased by 23.2 percent compared to January 2020, Trend reports referring to Policy and Management Consulting Group (PMCG), an international development consulting company, primarily focused on transitional and developing countries.
As reported, the 3-star, 4-star and 5-star hotel price index decreased by 19.7 percent, while for guesthouses, the price index decreased by 30.2 percent.
"Along with other factors, this may be due to the reaction to the adverse expectations about the number of tourists created by the threat of the COVID-19," said the PMCG.
According to the PMCG, in February 2020, compared to February 2019, hotel prices in Georgia decreased by 14.6 percent.
The prices of 3-star, 4-star, 5-star hotels decreased by 15.4 percent, while the prices of guesthouses decreased by 16.3 percent. In terms of regions, the prices decreased the most in Adjara (-28.8 percent), followed by Guria (-25.5 percent), Samtskhe-Javakheti (-16.9 percent) and Tbilisi (-11.6 percent).
As the company said, in Georgia, the average cost of a room in a 3-star hotel was 115 lari ($38.31) per night in February 2020. While the average cost of a room in a 4-star hotel in Georgia was 184 lari ($61.30) per night and the average cost of a room in a guesthouse was 66 lari ($21.99) per night.
Reportedly, the average cost of a room in a 5-star hotel in Georgia in February 2020 was 301 lari per night. In Mtkheta-Mtianeti, the average price was 779 lari ($259.51), followed by Tbilisi - 444 lari ($147.91), Samtskhe-Javakheti – 339 lari ($112.93) and Guria - 331 lari ($110.27).
