By Tamilla Mammadova – Trend:

Austrian exports of goods to Georgia suffered a sharp downturn of 15 percent to 61.7 million euros in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Federal Ministry for Digital and Economic Affairs of Austria told Trend.

"In the first three months of 2021 the negative trend continues: Austrian exports of goods to Georgia further decreased by 51.4 percent," the ministry noted.

According to the source, in contrast, Georgian exports of goods to Austria developed positively growing by 31 percent to 4.7 million euros last year. A similar growth rate at around 32 percent was recorded in the first quarter of 2021.

As the ministry said, travel restrictions affected normal business activities and, consequently, negatively impacted the Austrian project business.

"We are convinced that bilateral trade will finally pick up the moment this COVID-19 pandemic is over. We are already planning our next trade mission to Georgia for autumn," the source added.
