Azerbaijan, Baku, April 10 / Trend , E.Ismayilov/

The State Oil Company of the Azerbaijani Republic (SOCAR) is carrying out underwater exploration within the framework of the project to construct a Conventional Buoy mooring (CBM) loading of tankers by passing the Georgian Black Sea port of Kulevi, where SOCAR's oil terminal is located, a source from terminal said.

"The project is being designing," the source said.

"The construction of the system will be commenced this year. Now, we are trying to lift the Skadovsk ship from the depth and finish the construction of railway," the source said.

The ship turned over on Oct. 30, as a result of a storm (6-7 points). On 30 September, the vessel was beached and got a hole. Specialists from Ukraine arrived and decided to get the ship off through haulage. The ship turned over during the haulage. Currently, the terminal is engaged in lifting up the ship itself.

Terminal is constructing additional rail line from the Chaladidi station to Kolkheti station.
Roughly 8.10 million tons of oil and oil-related products will be shipped through the Black Sea oil terminal in 2009.

SOCAR's total investments in this terminal were $40 million.

Transhipment capacity of the terminal totals 10 million of oil cargo per year, including 3mln tons of oil, 3mln tons of diesel fuel, and 4mln tons of fuel oil. Kulevi terminal can simultaneously accept up to 168 cistern carriage. The tank battery's capacity totals 320,000 cubic metre. The port is capable of admitting tankers with deadweight of up to 100,000 tons, which makes the project economically rational. There are plans to increase the transhipment capacity of the terminal to 15-20 million tons.
