The Turkish Ministry of Energy and Natural Resources is planning to submit a draft law on the privatisation of Istanbul's gas distribution network İGDAŞ for Parliament's approval, a source of the Turkish government Institution on Privatisation reported on Wednesday.

"The project is currently at the development stage after which it will be sent to parliament. In the case of government's approval, İGDAŞ it will immediately be put up for sale", the source says.
Previously, the member of the Petkim oil chemistry complex noted in an interview with the Turkish mass media that SOCAR is planning to partially purchase Istanbul's İGDAŞ gas distribution network.

"Last year a company set up for İGDAŞ's purchase was established. We also have partners for joint participation in the privatisation process," Yavuz said.

He said SOCAR is going to offer a reasonable price for the partial purchase of gas distribution network.

The tender on sale is for of 90 per cent of İGDAŞ's shares which was planned to be held in May of 2012, but was postponed. Both foreign and local companies are allowed to participate in the tender.

SOCAR is the only producer of oil products in Azerbaijan. It owns two refinery plants as well as gas stations in Azerbaijan, Georgia, Ukraine and Romania. Last year the State Oil Company purchased a network of gas stations in Switzerland. SOCAR is a co-owner of the major Turkish oil chemistry complex Petkim.
