Iran produced over 18.340 million square meters of tiles and ceramics in the first Iranian calendar month of the current year (March 21 - April 20).
The amount shows over a 6.7 percent increase compared to the same period previous year, the IRNA News Agency reported.
Iran's tiles and ceramics output stood at 291.623 million square meters in the previous Iranian calendar year which ended March 20.
The amount shows a 1.1 percent increase compared to its preceding year, the IRNA News Agency reported.
Output hit 26.18 million square meters in the last month of the calendar year (February 19-March 19) which is 7.7 per cent more than its preceding year's figure of 24.3 million square meters.
According to the Head of the Tile Producers and Sellers Union, Mostafa Goudarzi, 80 percent of Iran's tiles and ceramics production are exported to Iraq.
He referred to Afghanistan and Uzbekistan as other destinations for Iranian-made products.
He added that some $270 million worth of tiles were exported two years ago.
