BAKU, Azerbaijan, November 12. The "Baku Harmony" initiative aims to serve as a comprehensive aggregator for all ongoing projects within the agricultural sector, Azerbaijan’s Minister of Agriculture Majnun Mammadov told reporters, Trend reports.
"COP29 represents a pivotal moment for Azerbaijan and a significant opportunity to address critical issues surrounding climate change. We are optimistic that the forthcoming discussions will yield positive advancements for the agricultural sector, which is particularly vulnerable to the adverse effects of climate change. On November 19, known as the Day of Agriculture, Food, and Water, we will engage in vital conversations focused on the intersection of agriculture and climate change, exploring both the sector's contributions to climate issues and the repercussions of climate change on our agricultural practices. Among the 14 key initiatives outlined in Azerbaijan, one specifically targets the agricultural sector. The Baku Harmony Climate Initiative is designed to support farmers directly and aims to serve as a unifying platform for all existing agricultural projects. By fostering collaboration and ensuring effective coordination, we hope this initiative will drive meaningful solutions and policy decisions that benefit both the agricultural sector and the communities that depend on it," he said.
To note, the 29th session of the Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP29) has started in Baku. The decision was made at the plenary session of COP28 held in Dubai on December 11 last year.

The acronym COP (Conference of Parties) stands for “Conference of Parties” and is the highest legislative body overseeing the implementation of the Framework Convention on Climate Change.
A total of 198 countries are parties to the Convention. Unless otherwise decided by the parties, COP is held annually. The first COP event was held in March 1995 in Berlin, and its secretariat is located in Bonn.
