Azerbaijan, Baku, March.04 / Trend H. Valiyev /

Microsoft Azerbaijan signed a memorandum of understanding with the Baku representative of the Softline company to tackle the use of pirated software.

The memorandum between Microsoft Azerbaijan and Softline foresees a range of activities to reduce piracy in Azerbaijan.

The initiator of the memorandum was USAID.

Today the volume of pirated software in Azerbaijan is roughly 90 percent, while the world average is 40 percent, USAID Caucasus Mission Director Jonathan Conley said.

Reducing piracy will play an important role in economic development and job growth. The National Bank of Azerbaijan also plans to participate in the first phase of the memorandum. In the next stages, the memorandum will be connected to the Azerbaijani Education Ministry and the Azerbaijan Copyright Agency.
