BAKU, Azerbaijan, June 13. Kazakhstan and ACWA Power signed a road map for the construction of a wind power plant in Kazakhstan, Trend reports.
The document was signed during the meeting between Energy Minister of Kazakhstan Almassadam Satkaliyev and Prince Abdulaziz bin Salman Al Saud in Riyadh (Minister of Energy).
The road map for the construction of a wind plant in Kazakhstan signed with ACWA Power Company, agreed upon as part of the Astana International Forum, aims to strengthen long-term bilateral cooperation between Kazakhstan and Saudi Arabia in the field of decarbonization and renewable energy sources.
Furthermore, at the meeting, an agreement was signed between the ministries, which covers various energy sector topics, including oil and gas, electricity, clean hydrogen, renewable energy, digital transformation, innovation, and cybersecurity in the energy sector. It also emphasizes enhancing collaboration with energy companies and addresses other pertinent issues related to energy cooperation.
In July 2022, a Memorandum of Understanding on the development of electricity and renewable energy was signed between the Kazakh Ministry of Energy and ACWA Power Company.
In March 2023, an Agreement on the principles of implementing joint projects was signed between the Ministry of Energy of Kazakhstan, Samruk-Kazyna Kazakh National Welfare Fund, and ACWA Power Company.
According to the agreement, the parties will collaborate on the construction of a 1 GW wind power plant in the Zhetysu region, near the Dzungarian Gate. The construction of the wind power plant is scheduled to commence in the summer of 2025.
