Next Meeting of World Ahiska Turks Council Due in Ankara

Kyrgyzstan, Bishkek, 18 September / Trend news corr. R.Mashadihasanli / The next meeting of the World Ahiska Turks Confederation Council will take place in Ankara on11 October in 2008, Murafaddin Sakimov, the chairman of the Kyrgyz Ahiska Turks Culture Centre and a member of the Confederation Council, told Trend .

In August it was expected that the next meeting of the Confederation Council would be held in Tbilisi, Sakimov said. However, the meeting was postponed because of the latest developments in Georgia and the meeting will be held in Ankara, Turkey, on 11 October in 2008.

Leaders of Ahiska Turks, who were sent into exile from Ahiska region of Georgia to Kazakhstan and Central Asia countries and at preset live in the United States, Russia, Turkey, Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Ukraine, Kyrgyzstan and Uzbekistan, assembled in Ankara at the beginning of June in 2008 and established the World Ahiska Turks Confederation Council.

The meeting will focus on implementation of Georgia's obligations put by the European Union (EU) on Ahiska Turk's repatriation and other important issues..
