Turkmen President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov has stated at a meeting of the Cabinet of Ministers that they must pay special attention to the housing privatization and creating real estate exchanges, the Turkmen government said today.

Turkmen President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov has stated at a meeting of the Cabinet of Ministers that they must pay special attention to the housing privatization and creating real estate exchanges, the Turkmen government said today.

The free privatization of municipal housing has been envisaged and conducted in some CIS countries. Housing privatization in Turkmenistan has been suspended during ex-president Saparmurat Niyazov's activity. He made exceptions for migrants to Russia.

It was previously reported that the Turkmen Parliament is preparing legislative acts for the housing privatization. This corresponds to the president's requirements to ensure the protection of family values, guarantees of the right of every citizen to housing. The housing and family codes which are being developed focus on this.

Based on the government's report, the president has outlined the formation of the securities market, privatization, creation of joint stock companies in the industry and the transformation of organizations and enterprises into joint companies as urgent tasks.
