Turkmenistan’s parliament elected Yazdursun Gurbannazarov as the country’s ombudsman.
There were three nominees for the position, and members of the Turkmen parliament made their choice by secret voting.
Turkmenistan’s Law on Ombudsman came into force on Jan. 1, 2017.
The position of ombudsman was established in line with the country’s Constitution in order to guarantee protection of human and civic rights and freedoms, their observance and respect by public authorities, local governments and their officials, said the Turkmen parliament’s resolution published earlier.
