Uzbekistan plans to bring the number of Karakul sheep to 10,000 heads by 2025, Trend reports referring to nuz.uz.

Some 4.2 billion soums (402.180) and 111.4 hectares were allocated in the scientific and pedigree experimental station of karakul breeding located in the Takhtakupyr district of Karakalpakstan Republic in Uzbekistan.

Of them, 100.9 hectares are sown areas. According to the information, 1056 heads of Karakul sheep were delivered with the allocated money.

The importance of the scientific tribal station of Karakul breeding was discussed at the meeting of the session held in the administration of the Takhtakupyr region.

The main goal of the station is to bring the number of Karakul sheep to 10,000 heads by 2025, to receive high-quality products from them, to increase the livestock, to export Karakul smushka (skins of lambs from the breed of karakul sheep), thereby creating a Karakalpak brand.

Special attention was also paid to the issues of systematic supply of productive sheep and rams to the population, dekhkan (family farm), and farms. Karakalpak karakul smushka are considered the highest quality in the world, but due to the economic decline of the industry, the livestock has dropped sharply.

The station in the Takhtakupyr region was built in accordance with the decree of the President of the Uzbekistan "On measures for the accelerated development of livestock industries in the Karakalpakstan Republic" dated November 7, 2019. The station was to increase the flock of pedigree karakul sheep belonging to the elite class on a scientific basis, to organize systematic work on artificial insemination and pedigree breeding, as well as to produce karakul smushka that are competitive in the world market.
