Iran’s wheat imports doubled

Iran has imported $2.115 billion worth of wheat during the first ten months of current Iranian fiscal year (March 21, 2014- Jan. 21), the country's Customs Administration said Jan. 24.

The Islamic Republic's wheat imports indicate a rise by 109 percent compared to $1.012 billion worth of wheat imports in same period of preceding year.

Wheat topped the list of Iran's imported goods with 4.84 percent share from the country's total imports' value.

After wheat, corn worth $1.394 billion, rice worth $ 1.195 billion and meal worth $1.077 billion were other main imported goods of the Islamic Republic during the 10-month period.

Tehran's rice imports have declined by 61.5 percent during the period, meanwhile the imports of corn registered a rise by 37 percent in terms of value compared with the first ten months of last fiscal year. Meal imports also recorded a decline by 34 percent year on year.

The four mentioned goods shared 13.24 percent of Iran's total imports in terms of value.

The average price for each one metric ton of Iran's imported goods in the mentioned period was $1270, which is 13.78 percent less than the previous year.

Iran imported about $43.677 billion worth of goods during the 10-month period, which indicates a rise by 15.44 percent year on year.

The country's non-oil trade turnover (including condensates) surpassed $86.261 billion during the first ten months of current Iranian fiscal year.
