The opening of the Kazakh Embassy in South Africa was discussed recently in Astana, Ambassador of South Africa Shirish Soni said in an interview with Trend.

"One of the issues discussed at a meeting between the deputy Foreign Minister of South Africa Ebrahim Ismail Ebrahim and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Kazakhstan Yerzhan Kazykhanov concerned the opening of the Kazakh Embassy in South Africa. We believe it would help to expand cooperation," Shirish Soni said during the event dedicated to Freedom Day of South Africa, held at the embassy.

Soni said the possible timing of the official visit of Kazakh President Nursultan Nazarbayev in South Africa was also discussed during the visit of Ebrahim Ismail Ebrahim to Astana.
"South African President Jacob Zuma personally invited Nursultan Nazarbayev to visit our country. The final decision on the visit will be made at the level of heads of state and presumably the visit may take place during the second half of the year," the diplomat said.

Soni noted that there is a lot of common ground for cooperation between the two countries." We are talking about the mining industry, agriculture and tourism development," he added.
"It has been decided to hold 'African Week' in Kazakhstan on May 24-29 and 'The Month of Nelson Mandela', on June 16 - July 30 so citizens of both countries get to know each other better," he said.

There will be performances of dance and music groups from the two countries at these events.
