Egypt will host an international conference on March 2 to raise funds for the reconstruction of the Gaza Strip recovering from the destruction caused by a 22-day Israeli offensive, Egypt's foreign ministry said Friday.
"The ministry has started intensive diplomatic contacts to convene the conference," Foreign Ministry spokesman Hossam Zaki said.
The foreign ministers meeting will tackle means to secure funds for rebuilding the enclave, as well as securing urgent humanitarian aid for the Palestinian territory, dpa reported.
"The conference is organized with full coordination between Egypt and the Palestinian Authority," Zaki said in a statement.
The conference will also discuss political issues that might directly or indirectly affect efforts to rebuild the Strip.
A fragile truce between Israel and Hamas has went into effect on January 18.
On December 27, Israel launched a 22-day attack on the Strip, controlled by the Islamist Palestinian group of Hamas, in an effort to halt rocket attacks from the territory and stop arms smuggling from Egypt. Around 1,300 Palestinians were killed and more than 5,000 were wounded during the fighting, while 13 Israelis died.
Egypt has been brokering a long-term ceasefire between Israel and Palestinian factions and an inter-Palestinian reconciliation among rival Palestinian groups.
