At least 11 people have gone missing in Egypt after two ferries collided on the Nile river around the northern Egyptian territories, Press TV reported.

The accident took place at the northern town of Rashid late on Friday. Search and rescue efforts that have so far helped save 19 lives out of an unspecified number of passengers onboard one of the passenger ferries that sank after the crash, Egyptian authorities said on Saturday.

The other ferry capsized but reports indicate that all of its reported 15 farers survived the collision, sending cars and people's possessions to the deep.

There has been no official account of the exact number of the travelers, as ferries operating on the world's longest river usually keep no records of their passenger counts.

At least four people have been detained over the latest accident.

Officials say they have ended search operations as efforts have yielded no further results.
