Four people have been confirmed dead and 44 others injured in a powerful blast that rocked Afghan capital Kabul on Monday evening, Interior Ministry spokesman Najib Danish confirmed, Trend reports citing Xinhua.

Ten children are also among those injured in the blast, Danish said in his twitter account, adding more details would be released later after investigation.

According to Danish, the terrorists conducted a car bomb against Green Village camp in Police District 9 and police are now in control of the situation there.

Green Village camp is a well-protected area next to the main office of Afghan election commission in the eastern edge of Kabul city where a number of foreign security offices and entities are located and often frequented by foreigners living or working in Kabul.

Earlier, Wahidullah Mayar, spokesman for the Public Health Ministry, confirmed that 40 injured persons had been taken to hospitals.

Independent sources however, say that the casualties could be higher than reported.

No group has claimed responsibility for the attack so far.
