Turkish Air Force conducted a night operation against militants belonging to the terrorist Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) on Mount Goman, on the northern border of Iraq, the Sabah newspaper reported.
Turkish intelligence received information about the intention of PKK militants to cross the border of Turkey in the Hakkari province. To prevent this, the terrorist base operating at Mount Goman was subjected to air and artillery strikes. No information has yet been received on the results of this operation.
In August and September last year, the Turkish Air Force struck dozens of targets in northern Iraq to destroy PKK bases and more than 300 militants were killed. Turkish Armed Forces General Staff said that it will continue to closely monitor the activities of the separatists in northern Iraq and carry out air operations after identifying new targets.
The conflict between Turkey and the PKK has lasted for over 25 years, claiming over 40,000 lives. The PKK is recognised as a terrorist organisation by both the UN and the EU.
