The Development Bank of Kazakhstan allocates a loan for up to 20 years for the purchase of passenger railcars "Talgo" for the expansion of high-speed traffic on key routes of the country, said the message of the bank July 31.
The bank signed the corresponding loan agreement with "Passenger wagon leasing company" JSC and "Passenger transportation" JSC, the message said.
The project worth 5 billion tenge (187.45 tenge = $1) is funded by the National Fund of Kazakhstan in accordance with the government decree.
The funding allocated by the bank will make it possible to upgrade the fleet of passenger trains on interregional routes in 10 key areas (Astana, Almaty, Karaganda, Pavlodar, Kostanay, Aktobe, Atyrau, Uralsk, Kyzylorda, Mangyshlak station).
In total, 28 railcars "Talgo" of high-class comfort and durability, produced by the railcar plant "Tulpar-Talgo" LLP for the climatic and geographic features of Kazakhstan, will be purchased. All of the standard coupe cars of tourist and business classes will have a set of video and audio equipment.
The president of "Passenger wagon leasing company" JSC Nariman Nuryarov said that at present, up to 60 percent of the inventory railway park of the passenger transport is out of date and needs to be replaced, and this project will increase the level of security and quality of transportation, will systematically resolve the issue of shortage of the rolling stock.
The project is part of a comprehensive sectoral program on renovation of the inventory park of national rail carrier "Kazakhstan Temir Zholy" JSC NC ("Railway of Kazakhstan"). The purchased cars assembled in Kazakhstan are to be commissioned in mid-2017.
The National Fund of Kazakhstan has allocated 70 billion tenge to provide funding of domestic producers and exporters through the Development Bank of Kazakhstan, and 5 billion tenge are provided to support the production of passenger cars.
"Kazakhstan Development Bank" JSC is the national institution on modernization and development of non-commodity and infrastructure sectors of the economy of Kazakhstan, established in 2001.
