The deputy chiefs of staffs of the armed forces of the NATO aspirant countries held a quadripartite meeting in Batumi, the Georgian Defence Ministry told Trend on Thursday.
The foundation of cooperation among Georgia, Montenegro, Bosnia and Herzegovina and Macedonia was laid at a meeting held at the Georgian side's initiative. Cooperation between these countries aims to conduct joint exercises and all types of activities to enhance interoperability of the armed forces in accordance with NATO standards.
At the meeting, first deputy of the Joint Staff of the Georgian Armed Forces, Brigadier General Vakhtang Kapanadze briefed colleagues on the prospects for the country's integration into the alliance. According to him, the next NATO summit has a special significance for all four aspirant countries. Close cooperation with each other in the future will help them come closer to the Alliance and promote interoperability with the NATO standards and strengthen Euro-Atlantic security.
Kapanadze also briefed colleagues on the on-going reforms at the ministry with the priorities of the 'Strategic Review of Security' document.
He also reported on Georgia's participation in the mission in Afghanistan.
"A very important meeting was held at the initiative of the Georgian side," Kapanadze said. "We actually laid the foundation for quadripartite cooperation. This enhances the interoperability with NATO through the implementation of various activities. I think that practical action will be taken soon."
