Turkey to Build Atomic Power Station and Hopes for Russia's Active Participation - Turkish Foreign Minister

R.Agayev / ""We are planning to build an Atomic Power Station and would like Russia's active participation in this project," Ali Babajan, the Turkish Foreign Minister, stated during a press conference dedicated to the results of his visit to the Russian Federation.

Touching upon relations between Turkey and Russia, Babajan commented on the cooperation within the energy sector. The Turkish Minister also spoke about the agreement on cooperation between the Russian Gasprom OJSC and Turkish BOTASH company in December 2006. He said that Russia was interested in storing liquid gas in the Turkish Ceyhan port.

During the Turkish Foreign Minister's meeting with his Russian colleague S.Lavrov, as well as V.Khristenko, Industry and Energy Minister and Turkish businessmen working in Russia, Babajan said that trade-economic relations between Russia and Turkey was developing rapidly. The trade turnover between Turkey and Russia totalled $20bln in 2007.

" Russia is Turkey's second foreign economic partner and Turkey takes fourth place in Russian export. About 2.5mln of Russian tourists visited Turkey in 2007," the Minister stated.

According to the Turkish Minister, the volume of Turkish investments to the Russian economy comprised $6bln and Russian investments to Turkey totaled $4bln.

Babajan stated that 2008 was declared the year of the Turkish culture in Russia. Planned events in the field of culture and art will promote rapprochement between the both countries.
