"Chief Editor’s Arrest, Accused of Spy, Not Connected with His Father’s Business" – Sabayil District Police Department

Azerbaijan, Baku, 28 July / Trend corr. K.Zarbaliyeva / The son of the chief editor of the 'Tolishi Sado' newspaper, suspected of cooperation with Iranian special services, has been accused of illegal drug trafficking.

According to the Committee to protect the rights of Novruzali Mammadov, chief editor, who was sentenced to 10 years of imprisonment, Emil Mammadov was kidnapped on 16 July at 12:00.

The Sabayil District Police Department told Trend that Mamamdov was detained and drug was found.

Mammadov has been accused of the Article 234 (illegal purchase, keep and transport of drug).

Mammadov was sentenced to three years of imprisonment and he is kept in the Isolation Cell 1 in Baku.

According to Chairman of the Committee to protect the rights of Hilal Mammadov the accused suffered from psychological diseases and received his education at home.

Elshad Abdulrahimov, the Chief in the Investigation Department, said that he did not have any document to prove Mammadov's disease. Abdulrahimov said that Mammadov would undergo psychological examination as soon as he would get the necessary documents.

Abdulrahimov considers groundless the rumors by the Committee that Mammadov's arrest was due to his father's business.

An investigation has been implemented on the case.
