Deputy Assistant Secretary of State Matthew Bryza hopes to continue working in the region.
"I love the region where I'm working. I will occupy the position despite rumors about my replacement," Bryza said in an interview with Georgian journalists in Geneva.
There are rumors that officials of the Bush administration will be replaced by new appointees.
Bryza said new Secretary of State Hillary Clinton will decide who will take the position.
"I'm ready to continue my work," Bryza said.
