Interior Ministry: Afghan president's brother shot dead

Head of the Afghan province of Kandahar and the brother of the Afghanpresident Ahmad Wali Karzai was shot dead at his home in an areacontrolled by Police Department No. 6, Interior Minister Najib Nikzadtold Trend over phone from Kabul.
He said thatthe police cordoned off the house and surrounding area.
They are searching for evidence that might point to a possible killer.
However, they have no information on the offender, Nikzad said.
Al Jazeera reported earlier, referring to the Kandahar province'sgovernor that the president's brother was killed today.
The Afghan Presidential Office is beginning an investigation into themurder of Wali Karzai, Presidential Office Deputy Official SpokesmanSiyamek Herawi told Trend over the phone from Kabul.
Wali Karzai, who was an influential figure in the Kandahar province,has been repeatedly accused by Western media of producing andtransporting drugs and having relations with the mafia.
Earlier, assassination attempts on his life failed, RIA Novosti reported.
