A fire broke out in Azerbaijan’s Republican Drug Rehabilitation Center in Khatai District, Baku, on March 2.
President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev immediately arrived at the scene and got informed of the situation there.
Heads of relevant authorities informed the president about the causes and consequences of the fire.
According to a joint statement of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the Prosecutor General’s Office, the Ministry of Emergency Situations, and Healthcare Ministry of Azerbaijan, a strong fire broke out at 06:10 (UTC +4) on March 2 in a building of the Republican Drug Rehabilitation Center, which has five buildings.
The manpower and equipment of the State Fire Control Service of the Emergencies Ministry and ambulances arrived at the scene. The Rapid Response Regiment of the Ministry of Internal Affairs and officers of the Khatai District Police Department provided the security of the territory and unhindered work of rescuers.
As a result of promptly implemented measures, 30 of 55 people who were in the building have been rescued. Three of them are hospitalized in the Republican Toxicology Center of the Healthcare Ministry.
The fire was extinguished at 08:30.
The Prosecutor General’s Office has filed a criminal case and an investigation group has been created from the staff of the Prosecutor General’s Office, the Ministry of Internal Affairs, and the Ministry of Emergency Situations.
The fire broke out due to malfunction in the building’s electricity network, according to the preliminary investigation.
President Aliyev gave relevant instructions for prompt elimination of consequences of the accident and implementation of urgent measures to investigate the causes of the fire.
He instructed the head of the Baku City Executive Power and the healthcare minister to provide assistance to family members of the fire victims and promptly provide the necessary medical aid to the injured people.
The measures implemented are under the control of the head of state.
