Azerbaijan is an important country for the United States, Adam Ereli, the spokesman for the US Department of State, stated. He was commenting on the Azerbaijan president Ilham Aliyevs ongoing visit to the United States, Trend reports.
Aliyev noted the interests in the bilateral relationships, including the human rights, democratic development, energy security, regional stability, and struggle with terror. Protection of human rights and democracy remains to be a central theme in the bilateral dialogue between Azerbaijan and the United States, Ereli underlined.
He refuted an idea that the invitation of the Azerbaijani President to Washington implies for the US indifference towards the problems with the human rights and democracy in this country. The United States pursues all the said goals, while the same time Washington adheres its own principles.
