Ukrainian Politician Considers that Ukrainian Media Sources Foment Political Crisis in Ukraine

Azerbaijan, Baku / corr. Trend A.Gasimova / "Pro-opposition media sources of Ukraine fomented the statement of the Ukrainian Parliament on technical impossibility to hold pre-term elections to High Rada on 24 June," said Ukrainian politician, Director of Center for Social Researches 'Sofia', Andrei Ermolayev.

The President of Ukraine signed a decree postponing the date of the parliamentary elections from 27 May to 24 June. Explaining his decision, Yushenka said that he has taken into consideration the appeal of the Central Election Commission on absence of quorum in the Central Election Commission, which presents serious difficulties and makes it impossible to hold parliamentary elections on 27 May 2007. The Parliament of Ukraine considers it technically impossible to hold elections on 24 June and appealed to the President to cancel the decree.

Over the last two days, the consultations in Ukraine went on at the level of President and Prime Minister and after 4 May talks, a common understanding was announced that the elections will take place and any discussions do not take place with regards to the elections. The dialogue between the coalitions, leaders of coalitions, President and politicians took place on the topic to find a way out in accordance with recent decisions and necessity to hold elections.

"Thus, the talks over the week took place to agree upon the rules of legislative base and election campaign, on which two decisions have been made by both President and Parliament," Ermolayev said. After announcing the open position of Parliament and President, discussions do not take place with regards to elections, but a working group is established to resolve the issues related to the preparation of the election procedures and date of elections. Presently according to recognized fact, the elections are necessary. The obvious fact is that the elections are impossible to be held until 24 June. In addition, it would be impossible to hold elections without a political compromise," Ermolayev underlined.

The politician highlighted the statement that the Prime Minister Victor Yanukovich exceeded the authorities granted to him on behalf of the coalition and part of coalition in the Parliament criticizes him. "But principally I do not see any sensations. The situation around the elections will become more clarified in the next weeks," Ermolayev concluded.
