TASHKENT, Uzbekistan, May 10. According to foreign experts' estimates, Uzbekistan’s water resources may decrease by almost 6 percent by 2030 due to climate change, President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev said, Trend reports.

He spoke at a meeting during which proposals on adaptation of agriculture to climate change, efficient land use, and the development of sectoral science were discussed.

In this regard, Uzbekistan has developed a national program consisting of 52 points on adaptation of agriculture to climate change and mitigation of its impact. Moreover, the country will grant more than $294 million for the program's activities.

Meanwhile, the Asian Development Bank (ADB) proposed to allocate 270 million for climate-resilient water and sanitation services projects in Uzbekistan.

The project will assist Uzbekistan in addressing climate vulnerabilities and enhancing public health and economic conditions by ensuring inclusive access to safe, reliable, climate-resilient, and sustainable water and sanitation services for the residents of Andijan, Jizzakh, Fergana, and Karakalpakstan.

Moreover, the project will help upgrade and expand the water and sanitation infrastructure in the project regions, as well as support regional stakeholders in implementing transformational changes.
