ASHGABAT, Turkmenistan, May 10. Turkmenistan has 40,220 point-of-sale (POS) terminals as of the beginning of May 2024., Trend reports.
According to data from the Central Bank of Turkmenistan, Ashgabat city boasts the highest number of POS terminals (13,107), followed by Lebap (6,811) and Mary (6,597) regions.
During the reporting period, Dayhanbank State Commercial Bank had the largest number of POS terminals, totaling 8,245 units.
The Turkmenistan State Commercial Bank secured the second position with 7,618 POS terminals, while Halkbank Joint-Stock Commercial Bank secured the third position with 6,885 POS terminals.
In the last eight years, Turkmenistan's POS terminal count has increased more than eightfold. Thus, on January 1, 2016, Turkmenistan had 5,223 POS terminals; by January 1, 2024, the total had risen to 42,131.
Meanwhile, Turkmenistan is energetically pursuing initiatives to advance its financial sector, aiming for modernization and enhanced efficiency.
