ASTANA, Kazakhstan, May 10. Kazakhstan is completing the construction of new passenger terminals at the airports of Shymkent and Kyzylorda, said Transport Minister Marat Karabayev, Trend reports.

Notably, the modernization of airports is being carried out through private investment.
Thus, a new passenger terminal at the Shymkent airport with a total area of 40,000 square meters will significantly increase capacity from 800,000 to 6 million passengers per year. There is an automated check-in and baggage handling system, telescopic gangways, and other amenities.
At the same time, the capacity of the Kyzylorda airport terminal under construction, with a total area of 7,500 square meters, will increase from 300,000 to 2 million passengers per year. The new passenger terminal will meet international quality and safety standards, which will provide passengers with the proper level of comfort and contribute to the opening of new flights, including international.
In 2023, Kazakhstan recorded an increase in key indicators in the field of civil aviation. Domestic airlines carried 13.3 million passengers, up 21 percent from a year earlier. The number of passengers served at airports increased by 24 percent, reaching 26.1 million.
Almaty and Astana airports experienced significant growth in 2023, recording a record 9.6 million passengers (a 31 percent increase) and 7.5 million passengers (a 27 percent increase), respectively. Simultaneously, the airports processed a 15 percent increase in cargo volume, reaching 145 thousand tons.
