BAKU, Azerbaijan, May 10. Director of Intergovernmental Support and Collective Process at the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCC) Cecilia Njenga clarified the issue regarding private companies eligible to take part in COP29, during the conference of the UN Office in Baku and Pasha Holding, "29 Climate Conversations: The Road to COP29," Trend reports.

According to her, the private sector has the opportunity to participate in the upcoming COP29 through:

- direct representation or through a company representing its interests as observers,

- partnerships with the government (its structures),

- interaction with sectoral non-governmental organizations (NGOs),

- assisting in the implementation of national climate commitments,

- financing climate projects,

- sponsoring COP29 events,

- participation in the events and panels of this Conference.

"It's important for companies to comply with regulatory requirements and effectively manage risks, demonstrate improved operational performance, corporate leadership, and sustainable investment opportunities," Njenga pointed out.

Such companies, as she explained, include Pasha Holding, whose representatives participated in COP28 in Dubai and will participate in COP29.

According to the UNFCCC representative, the private sector will make an important contribution to COP29 in Baku.

Njenga also noted that there will be separate panels with the participation of young COP leaders within the framework of COP29.

To note, this November, Azerbaijan will host COP29. This decision was made at the COP28 plenary meeting held in Dubai on December 11 last year. Baku will become the center of the world and will receive about 70–80,000 foreign guests.

The United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change is an agreement signed at the Earth Summit in Rio de Janeiro in June 1992 to prevent dangerous human interference with the climate system. COP—the Conference of the Parties—is the highest legislative body overseeing the implementation of the Framework Convention on Climate Change. There are 198 countries that are parties to the Convention. Unless the parties agree otherwise, the COP is held annually. The first COP event took place in March 1995 in Berlin, and its secretariat is located in Bonn.
