Agenda of Azerbaijani Foreign Minister’s Visit to Iran Publicized

Azerbaijan, Baku / Тrend corr S. Aghayeva / The Azerbaijani Foreign Minister, Elmar Mammadyarov, intends to discuss actual issues of bilateral and regional cooperation with Iranian officials, the Azerbaijani Ambassador to Iran, Abbasali Hasanov, reported on 19 June from Tehran. Negotiations will be held during the Azerbaijani Foreign Minister's visit to Teheran. The purpose of the visit is participation in the meeting of Foreign Ministers of Caspian countries to be held on 20 June in the capital of Iran. Mammadyarov has plans to meet the Iranian President, Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, the Speaker of the Iranian parliament, Gulamali Haddat-Adil and the Iranian Foreign Minister, Manucohr Mottaki.

The sides will exchange viewpoints on preparations for the forthcoming official visit of the Iranian President to Azerbaijan. The proposal of the joint use of the Azerbaijani Gabala Radar Station leased by Russia to the United States, as well as security in the region, will be touched upon.

The Iranian Foreign Minister has plans to hold bilateral meetings with his Russian, Turkmenistan and Kazakh counterparts in Teheran. The legal status of the Caspian Sea, regional security and development of cooperation in the Caspian area, along with the issues on bilateral cooperation are to be considered at the meetings.

The Foreign Ministers of the five Caspian countries will discuss preparations for the 2nd Caspian summit, where the legal status of the Caspian Sea will be determined. The 2nd Caspian summit was planned to be held in 2003.
