Sheik-ul-Islam of Caucasus, Ilia II discuss bilateral relationships

The chairman of the Caucasus Muslims Board (CMB), Haji Allahshukur Pashazade, and Patriarch of Georgia Ilia II discussed the bilateral relationships in Tbilisi on 31 July, Trend special correspondent in Tbilisi reports.

The meeting held behind the closed doors continued around 2 hours. In the end of the meeting the religious leaders briefed the media that they mulled the relationships between the two traditional confessions.

Our relationships have always differed for special warmth and partnership, we respect each others religious visions and can note the high level of cooperation, Ilia II said, voicing his hope that such meeting will become traditional. We always feel that we are unanimous in all issues, he underlined.

Ilia II underlined that the Muslim Azerbaijanis residing in Georgia differ for loyal attitude towards the statehood of Georgia and consider themselves as full citizens of Georgia. He stressed the absence of problems with the religions prays.

Sheik-ul-Islam arrived in Tbilisi to attend at the international conference on Role of women in the traditional religious training, which started in Tbilisi on 31 July. Initiated by Patriarchy and the CMB the gathering will bring together religious leaders of Azerbaijan, Georgia, Iran, Turkey and Russia. Patriarch of Georgia Ilia II and Sheik-ul-Islam are expected to deliver remarks to the forum.

During the visit to Georgia Sheik-ul-Islam plans to meet with Azerbaijanis residing there.
