Azerbaijna, Baku / Trend corr. S.Agayeva / About 1,000 secondary schools are in an emergency situation in Azerbaijan with the construction of new buildings and renovations of old ones requiring AZN 2 - 2.2 bln.
About 75 to 80 secondary institutions are in a bad state, particularly those schools which were built in 1920 and 1930, Orkhan Karimov, the Deputy Head of the Department of the Economic Ministry of Azerbaijan reported.
Karimov noted that the Ministry has developed the draft on 'State thorough repairs program, construction of new buildings and schools in 2008-2012', which is presently being considered in Government. It is expected that the Azerbaijani President will approve the program. "Implementation of the program will settle the problems of emergency schools," stated the representative of the Education Ministry.
About 1,000 schools have been constructed and repaired through the State budget, funds and foreign companies, which were supplied with upgraded equipment.
Karimov stated that the order of the President issued in 16 August would include 21 schools.
AZN 14mln will be allocated from the Surplus Fund to the Education Ministry. for the construction of new buildings and repairs
The program will involve Ujar, Jalilabad, Gobustan, Shamakhi, Kurdamir, Gusar and Salyan regions based schools, as well as some schools in Baku City. Furthermore, construction of new buildings in the aforesaid regions of Azerbaijan is also planned.
