MasterCard is developing e-commerce in Azerbaijan through its campaigns, MasterCard Country Manager for Azerbaijan Erdem Chakar told Trend.
According to Chakar, the adaptation of people to digital realities contributes to the rapid growth of non-cash payments, electronic and mobile commerce both in the world and in Azerbaijan.
He stressed that in the second half of 2020 and early this year, e-commerce and the number of online orders in Azerbaijan increased sharply.
“The technological breakthroughs we have now are just the beginning, and we will see further digital adaptation. Organizations that can adapt to the online business environment and create contactless payments and delivery of their goods will continue to grow. Our organization - MasterCard was aware of this trend even before the COVID-19 pandemic, as we saw this spurt in the markets of other countries, with more advanced e-commerce ecosystems. In addition, we have integrated our state-of-the-art technologies and provide them to all members of this ecosystem: cardholders, banks and merchants,” Chakar said.
According to the country manager, from now on, cardholders do not need to enter their card numbers every time on e-commerce sites where there is a Masterpass system.
“By storing their card numbers on Masterpass systems, users do not need to worry about security, and merchants do not need to invest in a security system. The seller just needs to focus on their business, selling products and services with higher conversion rates,” he added.
A MasterCard spokesman said banks as partners can provide better services to cardholders than ever before.
"Masterpass is currently available in Azerbaijan's payment systems Goldenpay, E-Pul and Umico. However, this year we plan that more and more sellers and service providers will join this project. To increase the adaptation of cardholders, we are running campaigns so that cardholders can receive discounts or increase loyalty points by paying through Masterpass," Cakar said.
