Czech Republic reports slight gas drop amid Russia-Ukraine row

The Czech Republic on Sunday received 5 per cent less gas than ordered amid the ongoing gas row between Russia and Ukraine, a report quoting an energy official said, dpa reported.

The CTK news agency in Prague quoted Martin Chalupsky, a local spokesman for RWE Transgas, as confirming the shortfall. The minor delivery failure would have no impact on consumers as gas reserves were available, he said.

Poland, Bulgaria and Romania have since Friday obtained slightly less gas than expected via the pipeline carrying Russian gas through Ukraine.

The European Union presidency, which the Czech Republic took over on January 1, has said it won't mediate in the "commercial dispute" between Moscow and Kiev, but insists on compliance with delivery commitments for western Europe.
