Azerbaijan, Baku, Feb. 27 / Trend S. Babayeva /
The Azerbaijani Ministry of Agriculture offers the government to buy part of grain produced in Azerbaijan's regions, Minister of Agriculture Ismet Abbasov said on Feb. 27.
"According to our information, producers can not fully sell grain in regions and it is not a pleasant factor. Grain crop will be also great in 2009 and the same problem will occur in such circumstances," Abbasov said.
Grain will be bought from producers at market prices. But no concrete decisions are made on this regard.
Such action will stimulate producers to increase production in the next years, Abbasov said.
Minister does not exclude changes in granting of subsidies to agriculture producers, including grain.
For example, producers can get state funds only after harvest but not for each sown hectare in future.
Such action can be applied towards producers of potatoes and vegetables in future, Abbasov said.
Production of grain increased 500,000 tons in Azerbaijan in 2008. Additional sown area is expected to increase 800,000 hectares in 2009. Production of grain is expected to total 2.1 million tons.
