Reconstruction of the airport of Shymkent, the third largest city of Kazakhstan, has been launched, Trend reports with reference to the Kazakh media.
SCAT Airlines and the administration of Shymkent are engaged in the reconstruction work. The total cost of the project, which should be completed in the first half of 2020, is 50 million tenge.
The airline, which invests 22.5 million tenge in the project, undertakes the construction of a new terminal, which will be located next to the existing one, and the expansion of the airport apron. Shymkent administration, in turn, will be engaged in the reconstruction of utility networks, construction and landscaping of the forecourt, as well as construction of access and bypass roads.
"The goal of the project is to create a large aviation hub that will link Southeast Asia, China, India, Kuwait and the UAE with Russian cities and cities of Europe: Moscow, St. Petersburg, Prague, Bergamo, Vilnius, etc.," said Vladimir Denisov, president of SCAT Airlines.
He added that the air links with Kyzylorda, Zhezkazgan, Karaganda, Kostanay, Pavlodar and Atyrau will be established within the country.
"By installing 4 telescopic airstairs at the first stage, we will be able to serve more than 2,000 passengers per hour, which is more than in the airports of Almaty and Astana," Denisov said.
