BAKU, Azerbaijan, June 14. The amount of wheat purchased from farmers in Iran’s South Khorasan Province under a guarantee increased by 163 percent, from the beginning of the current wheat harvesting season in the country (March 24, 2022) to June 14, compared to the same period last season, Director General of Iran’s Government Trading Corporation’s branch in South Khorasan Province Majed Asadollahi said, Trend reports citing the corporation’s website.
According to Asadollahi, more than 4,700 tons of wheat was purchased from farmers in the province under a guarantee within the mentioned period, which is considered record figure.
The official also pointed out that 17 centers have been established in the province to purchase wheat from farmers under a guarantee.
“In total, about 205 billion rials (about $4.87 million) has been paid to farmers in the province for purchased wheat until June 13, 2022,” he said.
In general, 9 million tons of wheat is expected to be purchased in Iran in the current Iranian year (from March 20, 2022, through March 20, 2023). Of this, about 5.5 million tons are expected to be purchased by the GTC.
The price of 1 kg of wheat was set up at 115,000 rials (about $2.74) for the current Iranian year.
A number of products, including wheat, tea, rice, and other products are purchased from farmers by GTC under a guarantee in Iran.
