Azerbaijan Scientific-Search and Design Institute of Gas (AzSSDIgas) began to design two gas pipelines, said the chief specialist on the project works of AzSSDIgas, Azer Seyidov. The order to design these pipelines was received from Aztransgaz, with which the institute cooperate closely.
"There are plans to construct two pipelines, one from the Sangachal terminal to Kazimammad and the second - to the underground reservoir Kalmaz. And we have already started to design these pipelines," said Seyidov.

Seyidov said the design work should be completed by September this year.

Near the Sangachal terminal, Azerigas JSC has a facility, which receives gas from the terminal that falls on the share of Azerbaijan in the development of Shah Deniz offshore gas field and Azeri-Chirag-Guneshli offshore block of oil and gas fields.

The sides to the production sharing agreement on the Azeri-Chirag-Gunashli fields are BP (operator- 34.14%), ChevronTexaco (10.2%), SOCAR (10%), INPEX (10%), Statoil Hydro (8.56%), ExxonMobil (8.01%), TPAO (6.75%), Devon (5.63%), Itochu (3.92%) and Delta Hess (2.72%).

An additional pipeline will be laid to ensure uninterrupted and safe transportation of gas from Azerigas's facility to the compressor station in Kazimammad, which is a gas hub and from which gas is distributed to all regions. According to the project, the length of new pipeline will be 47 km, diameter - 1,020 mm at a pressure of 55 atmospheres. A gas pipeline in this direction is already available, it was commissioned last past year. Its length is also 47 kilometers diameter - 1,220 mm with a design pressure of 55 atmospheres.

Also, to supply gas to Kalmaz Institute, the Institute designs additional pipeline in length of 20.2 kilometers with a diameter of 720 mm, with a design pressure of 55 atmospheres. This pipeline will run from the crane platform at 47 km between Garadagh and Kazimammad to Kalmaz underground storage facilities.

The contract on development of off-shore Shah Deniz field was signed on 4 June 1996. The sides to the contract are ВР (operator - 25.5%), Statoil (25.5%), SOCAR (10%), LukAgip (10%), NICO (10%), Total (10%), and TPAO (9%).

Currently, gas is transported to Georgia and Turkey through the South Caucasus Pipeline. This year, there are plans to generate more than nine billion cubic meters of gas from this field within the first stage. The second stage of the development of Shah Deniz is scheduled to begin by 2014, in general, it is planned to produce annually up to 20 billion cubic meters of gas within the second phase.
