Negotiations between Israel and Turkey on construction of the gas pipeline and supply of Israeli gas to Turkey may return to the agenda, analyst at Turkey's International Strategic Research Organization (USAK) Hasan Selim Özertem said.

"After Israel apologized to Turkey for the "Freedom Flotilla" incident, the parties are likely to sit down at the negotiating table in the near future to discuss the project for the transportation of Israeli gas to Turkey," Özertem told Trend.

According to the expert, the positions of Syria and Cyprus are also quite important, since the gas transportation route may pass either through the water area or Cyprus or the land territory of Syria.

Özertem noted that Turkey is interested in Israeli natural gas in every way. Thus, according to forecasts, by 2014-2015, Turkey's demand for natural gas will total 50 billion cubic meters, so the country is seeking to increase the sources of gas supply.

In addition, even if Turkey does not use gas from Israel, it could play the role of an energy corridor for the transport of Israeli gas to third countries, which is also quite beneficial for the country.

In February this year, the Minister of Energy and Natural Resources Taner Yildiz said that cooperation between Israel and Turkey in the field of pipeline construction and supply of Israeli gas to Turkey was impossible due to political disagreements.
The minister said that the project is very beneficial both for Israel and Turkey. However, Turkey will cooperate only if Israel fulfills all conditions set by Turkey.

Last Friday, an agreement was reached on the normalization of relations between Turkey and Israel after Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu in a telephone conversation with his Turkish counterpart Recep Tayyip Erdoğan apologized for violations committed during a maritime operation that caused the death of Turkish citizens.
As reported by the Office of the Israeli Prime Minister, heads of governments agreed on the restoration of relations, including the return of the ambassadors and Turkey's refusal of legal harassment of Israeli soldiers.
