A special committee at Iran Energy Exchange is reviewing an opportunity to launch water market for industrial consumption, said the managing director of the IRENEX, Trend reports citing IRNA.
"A committee consisting of private companies involved in water distribution and representatives of water department at the Ministry of Energy is discussing the issue," Seyed Ali Hosseini added. "The committee concluded that Jagin Dam in Hormozgan Province has the capacities to trade water at Iran energy exchange."
"The infrastructure for this market is ready. Considering different water prices across the country, launching a country-wide water market is not possible," he noted.
In his words, Tehran has the capacity to launch the water trade, as the capital's municipalities can use the domestic and industrial surplus of water that currently is consumed by farmers in the suburbs and set transparent price for it at the energy exchange.
Offering water at the energy exchange was discussed by the Ministry of Energy. It was considered that the water from Jagin Dam can be provided for industrial consumption as a pilot project the launch of the entire.
