BAKU, Azerbaijan, Apr.1. Bulgarian government is making serious efforts to attract investment in renewable sources and energy efficiency, said the country’s energy minister Alexander Nikolov, Trend reports with reference to the ministry.

Bulgaria has excellent conditions for the development of solar energy with 14 hours of sunshine per day from March through October, he said addressing the annual Solarpower Summit 2022 in Brussels.

“The growing geopolitical uncertainty due to the military actions in Ukraine, together with the lack of predictability due to the serious volatility of energy prices, pose serious challenges to European economies and energy industries. In these circumstances, coordinated efforts and solidarity in response to the crisis are key. These include a temporary framework to support national budgets and various mechanisms to increase security of energy supply. In addition, the introduction of cost-effective solutions at the national level is also extremely important. In this context, the development of solar energy for increasing energy independence is of particular importance. For the Bulgarian government, the development of renewable energy sources, and in particular - solar and wind energy, is a serious priority,” he said.

Ecologically clean, efficient and secure energy is crucial for the productivity, competitiveness and growth of the Bulgarian economy, stressed the minister. He reminded that Bulgaria is a major producer and exporter of electricity in the region and plays an important role in ensuring the energy balance in the Balkans.

Nikolov pointed out that in response to the current crisis with high energy prices, the Bulgarian government has allocated more than 2 billion euros to help household and industrial consumers.
