BAKU, Azerbaijan, October 1. Iran’s thermal power plants have increased their electricity production by 3 percent in the past year (from September 23, 2022 to September 22, 2023), compared to the previous period, Trend reports.
According to the data from the Energy Ministry of Iran, the thermal power plants generated over 337 million megawatts of electricity in this period, which means they produced an average of 1 million megawatts per day.
In order to meet the high demand for electricity in the summer season (from June 22 to September 22, 2023), the thermal power plants also boosted their power generation capacity by 2,749 megawatts.
There are currently 616 power units operating in 134 TPPs in Iran. The power generation capacity of the country's thermal power plants is 74,198 megawatt-hours.
At present, the power generation capacity of Iran's all power plants including, thermal, hydroelectric, nuclear, renewable, etc. is approximately 91,000 megawatt-hours. Of this, 82 percent are accounted for by the country’s thermal power plants.
