BAKU, Azerbaijan, June 25

Tamilla Mammadova – Trend:

For economic stability, it is necessary to develop regions and create new jobs, said Prime Minister of Georgia Irakli Garibashvili, Trend reports referring to the Georgian media.

“Each large or small project serves to strengthen the regions, create new jobs. The estimated cost of the first stage of the "Renewed Regions" state program is 500 million lari ($159.3 million). Gas supply and the creation of water supply infrastructure are actively underway in the regions,” he added.

According to him, the policy of developing villages and agriculture is being systematically implemented.

“We are systematically pursuing a policy of developing villages and agriculture. Last year and this year, more than 8,300 infrastructure projects were selected for financing within the framework of the Rural Support Program. Access to finance has increased thanks to the “Concessional Agricultural Credit Program”. We have achieved significant results,” Garibashvili said.

He noted that in a short period of time, Georgia attracted $2.1 billion in funding from international financial institutions, which made it possible to fully finance the response to the pandemic and maintain macroeconomic stability.

“We have developed a powerful package of health, social and business support measures. Health care costs were $900 million. As for business support, it is 3 billion lari ($956.3 million), measures of social protection of citizens amounted to 300 billion lari ($95.6 billion). This is the year of economic recovery with a decrease in the impact of the coronavirus pandemic,” Garibashvili said.
