BAKU, Azerbaijan, November 11. Within the framework of the 29th session of the Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Agreement on Climate Change (COP29) in Baku, a press conference was held on the theme “True animal protein price coalition (TAPP): COP28 Food Declaration and hidden costs of food, fiscal measures, analysis of the new FAO SOFA 2024 report," Trend reports.
According to the information, head of the coalition, Jeroom Remmers, speaking at the conference, noted that farmers need fair wages.
“This can also be called health costs. We all know about obesity, but many non-communicable diseases like heart disease, diabetes, and cancer depend on the food we eat. This will lead to a slight increase in the price of food, but on the other hand, we can also lower the prices of the foods we prefer more, and that is better for the planet.
Some surveys have been done in different countries, including China and America, and according to this survey, there is more support for a meat tax than fossil fuel taxes,” he said.
To note, the 29th session of the Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP29) opened today in Baku and will continue until November 22. The event is the largest organized by Azerbaijan to date, and for the first time it is being held in the region of Azerbaijan.
Within COP29, the highest level event - the summit of world leaders on climate action - will be held on November 12–13.
The main expectation from COP29 is to agree on a fair and ambitious New Collective Quantitative Goal (NCQG) on climate finance.
In addition to being a top priority that sets the stage for action, the creation of climate finance will also contribute to meeting the 1.5°C commitment by bringing everyone together.
The UN Framework Convention on Climate Change is an agreement signed at the Rio Earth Summit in June 1992 to prevent dangerous human interference in the climate system. The acronym COP (Conference of Parties) stands for “Conference of Parties” and is the highest legislative body overseeing the implementation of the Framework Convention on Climate Change.
A total of 198 countries are parties to the Convention. Unless the parties decide otherwise, COP is held annually. The first COP event was held in March 1995 in Berlin, and its secretariat is based in Bonn.
