Kazakhstan will more likely hold early elections to the Majilis (lower chamber) in mid-January 2012, the political advisor of the Kazakh President Yermukhamet Yertysbayev said to Novosti-Kazakhstan.

On Thursday, a group of MPs appealed to Kazakh President with a request to dissolve the Majilis and called for early elections to the parliament.

"I'm convinced that the president will support the initiative of the deputies," Yertysbayev said. "I will advise the head of state to support it."

In accordance with the legislation on parliament, the president of Kazakhstan can dissolve the lower house of parliament after consultations with MPs and the Prime Minister.

According to the Constitution, early elections to Parliament should be appointed no later than two months after dissolving the lower chamber.
